I took this along the coast in Sliema during January 2018, needing to get out of Berlin for a while. Standing there, I kept thinking about a summer visit to Malta, sitting on hot rocks and letting the waves splash over me to cool down.
There is something about being by the water that settles me. I love to just watch things arrive and leave again, and find that using long-exposure motion techniques captures that feeling.
The colors are muted: warm beige and brown meeting cool grey and blue, everything flowing together without hard edges. It feels like looking at the sea until your eyes soften and you stop focusing on any single wave. The motion becomes one continuous thing. It reminds me of that phrase, this too shall pass. Not in a sad way, but as a comfort. I wanted to capture that feeling of impermanence being peaceful rather than unsettling.
