Von Allem Etwas is German for 'a bit of everything,' which describes Berlin as well as any phrase can. I layered multiple exposures until the Fernsehturm began to drift through its own reflections, repeating, dissolving, reappearing. The tower stays recognizable through all of it. The city around it doesn't.
That's close to how Berlin actually sits in my memory. After enough years in a city, you stop seeing it as a skyline and start carrying it as fragments: a facade here, a stretch of sky there, everything layered and slightly out of register. When I look at this image I don't see a view. I see the residue of many days folded into one frame, soft, fractured, and full of suggestion.
