Walking through the Black Forest that morning, I watched the fog settle between the trees, closing the world down to the first few rows of trunks. The path pulls you forward through grey and muted green, brown earth disappearing into white. I've been lost in forests before, so I understand the relief of a clear way forward, even when visibility ends a few meters ahead.
But I've also learned to appreciate this threshold between knowing and not knowing. The trees create a natural corridor, an invitation rather than a command. You can see where to place your next step, but the destination remains veiled. I think we need both: the wilderness and the way through it.
This photograph holds that tension. It's the feeling of moving forward when you can't see the end, trusting that the path continues even as the fog obscures it. The colors are subdued, almost withdrawn, leaving only the essential shapes and the soft light that makes everything feel suspended in time. "Schritte" means steps in German. That morning, steps were the only plan I had.
