Tenerife is my happy place, and this moment on Mount Teide captures exactly why I return. The temperature drops as you climb, and suddenly you're walking above an endless sea of clouds that stretches to the horizon. It's a complete separation from everything happening below.
The volcanic mountain rises dark and solid through the white, while the sky holds this particular quality of light I've only found at altitude: clear blue above, warm orange where the sun meets the cloud layer. There's a stillness here that's hard to find anywhere else.
I made this image as an invitation to step away, to take that fresh breath of cold mountain air, to experience what it feels like when a thick layer of clouds acts as a buffer between you and the rest of the world. It's about perspective, both physically and mentally.

Process
This is a direct color photograph rather than an ICM or multiple-exposure piece. Its abstraction comes from altitude, scale, and atmosphere: the mountain, cloud layer, and horizon reduce the landscape into strong bands of light, shadow, and space.

Are the prints signed?
